Karate is often associated with self-defense, but its benefits extend far beyond just physical protection. This ancient martial art offers a holistic approach to personal development, physical, mental, and emotional growth. Karate means fighting with bare hand for self defense . The father of modern Karate is DR. Gichin Funakoshi, who was born in 10th November,1868. Karate is a Japanese tradition. In karate there are 4 different styles. The styles are: shito-ryu, shoto-kan, godo-ryu, odo-ryu. Karate is not only for self defense, it is an individual sport. It was established as sport in 15th century. Then it became popular across Japan in the 1920’s. Karate is also a part of sport in Olympic and Commonwealth.

 


I also do karate and I am an official black belt holder. A black belt in karate signifies that the student has moved up ranking system, achieving an important milestone in both their mental and physical experience. Student who wear black belt is recognized as teacher. I got this inspiration from my father who is also a Karateka. From 4 style, I learn shito-ryu style. And the founder is Kenwa Mabuni. I started learning karate after finishing my SSC examination. My father has a karate club, so he took me there and my master who is considered as Sensei, name is Shahjahan Ali dewan. Let me share my experience. My first week was so rough because of muscle pain. Everyone suffer this situation on their first week. Then after 3 month, there was my first district tournament. I took part and after 5 round finally I won a gold medal. Then I keep practicing. Then on 10th of December had my inter-district championship. There was 8 district took part on that championship. After 5 round again I won gold medal. Karate is a very special game which helps me to gain more confidence in every field. I also teaches karate to beginners and low ranked students. I had participated on many campaign on karate. Learned lots of techniques from many well known karate trainer.

There are some of the key benefits of practicing karate beyond self-defense. Firstly, Karate is an excellent way to improve overall physical fitness. The strict training routines help enhance cardiovascular health, build muscle strength, improve flexibility, and increase endurance. Regular practice can lead to better posture, balance, and coordination. And it helps an individual to present himself as a sportsman also. Secondly, Karate requires a high level of mental focus and discipline. Practitioners must learn to concentrate on their movements, anticipate their opponent’s actions, and maintain self-control under pressure. This mental training can translate into better focus and discipline in other areas of life, such as academics or work. As an example, most of karateka has reflection in every step.

Then, Engaging in karate can be a great way to relieve stress. The physical hard work helps release endorphin hormone, which are natural mood lifters. Additionally, the practice of controlled breathing and meditation techniques in karate can help calm the mind and reduce anxiety. A karate player always keep them calm in every difficult situation. Karate increases self-confidence. As practitioners progress through the ranks and achieve new belts, they gain a sense of accomplishment and self-worth. The challenges and successes in karate build self-confidence, which can positively impact other aspects of life, including social interactions and professional endeavors.

The main thing that, karate teaches the importance of respect for oneself and others. Practitioners learn to bow to their instructors and peers, showing humility and acknowledging the value of mutual respect. This principle of respect extends beyond the dojo and into everyday life, promoting better relationships and a more respectful attitude towards others. Finally, karate helps an individual for setting up a goal. Karate is structured around a system of belts and ranks, each representing a different level of proficiency. Setting goals to achieve the next belt and working actively towards them teaches the value of perseverance and hard work. This goal-setting mindset can be applied to personal and professional aspirations.

Girls should know karate for there own safety. Every year women ages 18-24 who are college students are 3 times more likely than women in general to experience sexual violence. Females of the same age who are not enrolled in college are 4 times more likely. On the other hand, those who know karate techniques, are fighting against the rapist. So it is better to learn karate for self-defense.

In conclusion, karate offers a wealth of benefits that go far beyond self-defense. It promotes physical fitness, mental discipline, stress relief, self-confidence, respect, goal setting. And the most important thing, girls will be more strong if they learn karate. There are 70% girl learns karate but if the number increase, the percentage of sexual harassment will be vanished.
